This thumb screw combines a knurled cap-style head for finger handling with a Phillips recess for specified tool access. The listed stainless steel design has a plain finish and a partially threaded machine shank. Match the grip dimensions and thread location to the intended adjustment or removable assembly.
Define the knurled head diameter, height and pattern. Leave room for fingers around the head, including any nearby cover edge or bracket. If operators wear gloves, evaluate a representative sample in that condition rather than selecting the grip by appearance alone.
A Phillips recess gives an additional tool interface, but the permitted tightening method should still be defined. Establish whether the part is intended for finger adjustment, tool-assisted installation or both. The required clamp and acceptable operating effort depend on the complete joint.
Dimension the plain shank and threaded section individually. Show where engagement begins relative to the panel or bracket. If the unthreaded portion guides movement or locates the part, define its diameter and tolerance for that function instead of treating it as an unspecified clearance section.
State the stainless alloy and required mechanical properties. Plain finish is the listed condition; it does not automatically include polishing or additional passivation. For frequently handled parts, agree surface cleanliness and acceptable edge condition around the knurl and recess.
Specify the right-hand thread, pitch and tolerance along with the mating component. Evaluate turning effort, useful adjustment travel and removal clearance. The screw should not reach an unintended stop or lose required engagement at the ends of the operating range.
Review head dimensions, knurl condition, Phillips recess fit, plain-shank diameter and thread length. Functional samples can reveal whether the grip is accessible and whether the required travel is available. Any specified operating effort or retention behavior needs an agreed test method.

Is this automatically a captive panel screw?
No. Captive retention requires a defined relationship with the panel or retaining feature. A thumb head and partial thread alone do not establish it.
Does the knurl lock the screw against vibration?
The knurl is a grip feature. A locking requirement must be addressed separately in the joint design.
Can the operator tighten it only by hand?
That depends on the needed clamp and the available grip. Validate the intended operating method on the assembled sample.
Test access, turning and removal with the surrounding components installed. Confirm that the knurl does not interfere with adjacent surfaces and that exposed edges meet the agreed handling requirements. Retain the accepted grip profile and thread travel for repeat orders.
Provide head and knurl dimensions, partial-thread details, stainless grade and quantity. Include the available finger clearance, adjustment travel and any panel-retention requirement to support a practical design review.
